Mission Raniganj is based on the survival story of the workers who are working in a coal mine and suddenly the water flows into that mine due to some blast. This event happened in 1989. There are some workers working at the coal mine that was founded a long years ago by the British. Then on the day of December 13, 1989, suddenly a blast occurred to clear the coal due to which the water of the nearby river gushed into that coal pit.
Six workers died there and the remaining 65 workers were rescued by the team of a young IITian Jaswant Singh Gill, who was a resident of Amritsar and was working in the rescue team. He made a metal capsule and sent it to the pit as there was no other way to rescue the workers from that hell as the flow of water was very strong. The capsule was an innovative idea and no other rescue operations had performed like that. So, Gill was successful in his mission.
